TIME FOR YOURSELF

BY DIANE BAIR & PAMELA WRIGHT

Schedule in some relaxation during your family getaway.

SCHOOL VACATIONS, holiday weekends, spring break—it’s time to get away. In the best of worlds, family vacations are restful, inspiring and adventurous. They can also be exhausting, nerve-racking and hectic. While there are no guarantees to a worry-free getaway, building in adult alone time and pampering will certainly help. Here are three spas in family-friendly destinations where you can relax and relieve your FVSS (family vacation stress syndrome) symptoms. Are we there yet?

INDIANAPOLIS

STUDIO 2000 SALON & DAY SPA

Circle Tower, 55 Monument Cir, Ste 2000, 317-687-0010 www.studio2000spa.com

This family-friendly city will keep you busy, but when it’s time for a break, step into this barbershop-turned-spa. The interior, boasting one of the best surviving examples of original Art Deco, is a hoot; silver inlaid figurines, lightning bolts and clouds decorate black-tiled walls. If you’re feeling a little haggard, splurge on the Cleopatra package ($295), which includes everything your body needs: a full-body exfoliation and wrap; a soak in the hydro-tub; an antioxidant face mask; face, foot and body massages; a vichy shower; and a shampoo and style. Tip: The salon has the best hair colorists and stylists in the city.

WILLIAMSBURG, VA WILLIAMSBURG, VA

THE SPA OF COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG

307 S England St, 800-688-6479, www.thespaofcolonialwilliamsburg.com

Busch Gardens’ roller coasters left you in knots? This 20,000-square-foot spa has the cure. It masterfully combines centuries-old rituals with modern-day practices. The 17th-century experience features a white oak bark and heated stone massage and warm linen body cocoon, while the 18th-century-inspired treatment uses a mix of colonial herbs for a two-hour scrub, wrap and massage (both $265). Jump to the 21st century for an anti-aging facial, including an ultrasound exfoliation and oxygen treatment. The experiences are meticulously researched, so if you’re feeling guilty about leaving the kids behind, don’t. Consider it a history lesson.

CLEARWATER BEACH, fl(25 miles from (25 miles from Tampa)

THE SPA AT SANDPEARL

Sandpearl Resort 500 Mandalay Ave, 727-674-4140 www.sandpearl.com

You’ve hunted shells with your toddler and jet-skied with your teen. Now it’s time to slip into the serene confines of this recently opened beachfront spa. Your sun-baked skin will get immediate relief with the warm algae marine bath followed by a cooling tonic body wrap ($200) or the Signature Body Iridescence treatment ($200), which includes a crushed pearl paste rub and dry skin brushing. The Signature Pearl Iridescence facial ($130) combines powdered pearl extracts with an acupressure and lymphatic massage. For $25 more, book a massage in a beach cabana and listen to the surf as your therapist unfrazzles the edge
