SPAS FOR TWO

BY DIANE BAIR & PAMELA WRIGHT

This Valentine’s Day, luxuriate in romantic couples treatments.

You could spring for his-and-hers tattoos to celebrate V-Day, but beware: They can last longer than the love that inspired them. So why not treat yourselves to something a tad less permanent, but plenty memorable, like a spa treatment á deux? Pair it with a couples’ package at a hotel, then bring on the champagne and chocolates, and you’ll give Cupid a run for his money.

Wrapped around this spa are an expansive fitness center and a mammoth pool with a wall of windows, so give yourselves plenty of time to play before your couples massage, the most romantic way to unwind. The space has a spare, Asian aesthetic, and the couples’ room is almost clinical. With no distracting froufrou, you’ll focus on the expert ministrations of the masseuse, the music (feel free to bring your own) and the relaxed glow coming from your partner. In addition to the 50-minute massage ($110 per person), the spa offers indulgent options for couples that include luxury body wraps, paraffin treatments and crystal-mud foot soaks.

Daytona Beach may be more famous for racing engines than racing hearts, but nobody told the folks at this ocean-front spa, which puts romance into overdrive with the Bliss Couples Spa ($500). Secluded in the couples’ room, you’ll be massaged for 80 minutes with sensual Lavender Aphrodisia body oil, with essences of French lavender, patchouli and tea. Next up: a candlelit soak in a claw-foot tub, filled with water infused with Dead Sea salts and rose petals. Finally, you’ll put your (four) feet up for side-by-side pedicures, complete with an apricot-seed exfoliation and a hydrating foot masque—all this while you and your partner sip Taittinger. It’s not a bad way to spend three hours.

Are you a manly man who cringes at the mere mention of mud baths and moisture treatments? Get your bad self and your significant other to The Spa at The Brown Palace Hotel—there’s no frilly stuff here. You’ll feel right at home in the sleek, two-story spa, done up in neutral tones and dark woods. Set the mood with a session in the spa’s private, candlelit couples’ suite. Start with a warm soak in a tub for two, filled with pure artesian well water (the hotel sits atop a 750-foot well, and the spa was home to Turkish baths at the turn of the last century), followed by a Colorado hot river stone couples massage. The total package costs $260.
