Faux fringe can definitely up the glam factor for a big night out, but it’s not always the best option when you’re on the go. Celebrity makeup artist Kimara Ahnert shares a few of her secrets for taking your natural lashes to their fullest lengths ever. Just don’t blame us if you get labeled a flirt!
• Start by coating lashes with a primer or lash thickener. Wait a moment for the formula to set.
• Next, apply a layer of waterproof mascara. It will act as a foundation, offering an initial coat of color and helping subsequent layers to adhere better. “Waterproof formulas tend to be on the thicker side and dry very quickly,” Ahnert says.
• If needed, separate lashes with a metal lash comb to remove clumps.
• Add another layer of regular mascara over the first. “This second coat will build the lash line without making it look clumpy,” Ahnert says. Make sure to reach the tiny lashes on the outer and inner corners of the eyes as well, since these are often overlooked.
• Separate lashes again, if needed.
• If you’re feeling glamorous, you can add a third coat, concentrating on the very tips of lashes to build extra length.
• For an even fuller look that will give any diva a run for her money, apply liquid or fine pencil liner along the very edge of the lash line, dotting on color to fill in the gaps between lashes (think of it as connecting the dots). Now you’re ready for some serious eyelash-batting!
