Thank you for flying with AirTran Airways

There’s something special about September. In much of the country, there are brighter, clearer days to enjoy as the heat of summer fades and the first winds of autumn stir in the trees.

Although today’s educational calendars often have students returning to class earlier, September remains synonymous with going back to school, with new teachers and classmates, new lessons to learn and friendships to build.

With college classes resuming this month, September is the perfect time for travelers to join our AirTran U standby program, which offers those aged 18 to 22 the special opportunity to fly standby for as little as $69 one way. (Some longer flights are $89.)

September is also a big sports month, with baseball’s pennant races heating up, college football rolling along, and the Nflmoving into regular season play. Thanks to loyal customers like you and the hard work of our 9,000 friendly, professional Crew Members, AirTran Airways continues to grow. We set new records for both revenue and passengers in the second quarter, serving 6.3 million travelers.

While fuel costs remain challenging, AirTran Airways is always working to drive down other costs and provide you with the lowest fares. In fact, on a year-over-year basis, we’ve reduced our non-fuel unit costs for four consecutive quarters, all while maintaining the highest standards of safety, service and on-time performance.

One cost-control key has been our growing fleet of young Boeing jets. Both the 717 and the 737 provide strong fuel economy and efficient overall operation. In July, we took delivery of our 50th new Boeing 737, and we couldn’t be happier with the performance of both aircraft. More importantly, we know customers like you appreciate the EasyFit overhead bins, XM Satellite Radio and Business Class on every plane.

Along with new jets, we’re also adding new flights and fresh travel options. We recently began nonstop service between Las Vegas and Akron/Canton, Bloomington/Normal, Dayton, Flint, Milwaukee, Moline/Quad Cities and Rochester. In November, we’ll add new seasonal service between St. Louis and Sarasota/ Bradenton as well as nonstops between Newburgh, New York, and West Palm Beach.

Even as we grow, AirTran Airways remains your go-to airline for affordable, all-Boeing service to and from Atlanta. No doubt visitors, residents and future guests alike will enjoy this issue’s focus on Atlanta and all the great things it has to offer.
