Outdoor Escape

An Outdoor Escape

A HUNTING AND FISHING ADVENTURE LIES SOUTHWEST OF ATLANTA.

Do you spend all week daydreaming about escaping to the great outdoors? A visit to Flat Creek Lodge can make your escapist fantasies come true. Located in southeast Georgia, the resort provides transportation—and a relaxing getaway—from Atlanta, Savannah and Jacksonville.

The goal of Flat Creek Lodge has been to create a largely self-sustained property, and the success of this ethos can be found throughout the 2,000-acre resort.

For example, an emphasis on the use of local products is evident throughout the dining room. Seasonally appropriate four- and five-course dinners are served by Executive Chef Scott Myers. Herbs and vegetables are grown in on-site greenhouses, providing a menu that changes daily and ingredients that are always fresh. Guests enjoying the area’s excellent hunting provide the kitchen with quail, pheasants, wild turkey and Mallard ducks, while those who spend the day fishing, reeling up trophy-sized largemouth bass, bream and blue gill, provide diners with their seafood selections.

Flat Creek welcomes each new season with a visit from a guest chef who is invited to demonstrate their creativity in utilizing on-site ingredients from the dairy, greenhouses and berry orchards. On October 20, Chef Stephen Minton, an esteemed chef instructor from Georgia Southern University, will oversee the food along with beer pairings.

Flat Creek recently introduced a line of artisanal cheeses, including Havarti, Gouda, Edam and Colby. On September 27, the lodge is hosting a wine and cheese sampling, giving visitors the opportunity to taste both the new cheeses and this year’s wines—many provided by local Georgia wineries.

The seemingly rustic lodge also provides the perfect setting for a luxurious getaway. The full-service spa overlooks a stunning lake, and the Japanese bathhouse that was recently added offers milk and mineral baths in a setting enhanced by Japanese artwork and bamboo trees. In addition to a wildlife theme throughout the lodge, individual rooms are decorated to fit the setting, such as the “Bass Room” or the “Bream Room.”

Rather than leaving everyone behind, an escape can be provided for the entire office. Company retreats are organized at the lodge, where the boardroom features a Wifinetwork and video conferencing equipment.

Whether as a resort to escape your work, or as a business destination to reinvigorate your company, Flat Creek will make your dreams come true. www.flatcreeklodge.com
