SELF-TANNING TRICKS

Gone are the days when a sunless tan was more orangeade than beauty aid. The newest crop of self-tanners offer a natural-looking glow— especially when skillfully applied. Just remember:

Always start by exfoliating skin to banish dry, flaky patches that can spell uneven application.

For a more gradual tan or to add a subtle touch of color to paler skin tones, dilute self tanner with moisturizer. You can also try a body lotion with built-in color-enhancing ingredients.

If applying self-tanner to face, make sure to choose a product specially formulated for that purpose. Blend well—especially at the hairline and around crevices near the nose and chin.

Apply to one area at a time, blending quickly as you go. Always wait for the product to dry before dressing.

BRONZER 101

Bronzers, whether powder, gel or cream, can perk up a washed-out complexion in just a few seconds. To bring out your inner beach bunny on the fly, try these expert tricks:

Apply lightly to face, emphasizing areas where the sun would naturally hit—bridge of the nose, cheeks and chin. Start off subtle and fill in color where needed.

To rev up an already sunny glow, use bronzer instead of blush.

Oilier skin types should stick with powder and oil-free gels, while dry complexions will benefit from hydrating creams.

For a lavish, natural look, apply bronze or brown shadow on the eyelids.

Pick a shade that complements your natural skin tone. Don’t go dramatically darker or you’ll look fake.
