Sea Lions at Pier 39
San Francisco, January 19

Sea lions are the center of attention on the 17th anniversary of their arrival in San Francisco Bay. Back in 1990, the sudden arrival of a troupe of the sea lions (attracted by the plentiful herring supply) took the city by surprise and delighted onlookers. Each January, their numbers soar, and the playful marine mammals are a delight to visitors. Pier 39 is also home to shops, restaurants and attractions, including an aquarium. www.pier39.com
