Ritzy Renaissance

New Hotel

The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans is opening its doors once more after Hurricane Katrina forced it to close last year. Housed in a stunning building that is more than 100 years old, the hotel is returning bigger and better than ever, with an extra 8,000 square feet of meeting space and improved guest rooms. Guests can also enjoy the expanded spa, with a new menu of relaxing treatments. www.ritzcarlton.com

Walk Tall

Good Cause

Helping Our Heroes is a nonprofit organization that helps donated funds and services reach American military personnel. AirTran Airways lends a helping hand to the association by flying wounded soldiers back to their homes. On November 12, the Veterans Day 10K Race and Walk at West Potomac Park, Washington, DC, is being held in honor of all US service personnel wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan— and all are welcome to turn up and show their support or participate. Art Coverage

New Exhibition

The Indianapolis Museum of Art has launched an eccentric exhibition entitled Gee’s Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt, which runs until December 31. It will feature 70 handmade quilts, all made by generations of African-American women from a small community of residents on a sliver of land on the Alabama River. Due to their isolation from supplies, the women made the quilts from whatever they could get their hands on, and as such they feature inventive color combinations and fascinating irregularities that make them captivating examples of modern art. www.ima-art.org
