From classic glamour to glam rock, fall runways offered up an array of dazzling looks.

Want to try the hottest new trends on for size? Luckily, you don’t need an on-call makeup artist to duplicate this season’s bold hues and sultry shades. Celebrity makeup artist and creator of her namesake cosmetics line Debra Macki gave us the insider scoop.

Red, Red Lips

A high-impact shade like red requires special handling —but when done right, nothing’s sexier. To pull it off in style, Debra suggests the following:

• Be confident. You’re wearing the lipstick—it isn’t wearing you.

• Choose the right red for your skin tone. If you look best in cool colors such as white, pink and silver, choose a blue-based red. If your complexion favors warmer shades like ivory, peach and gold, opt for a yellow-based red.

• Keep the rest of your face understated. If you do dramatic eyes with red lips, you’ll look more cabaret than chic. Think neutrals like taupe, brown or gray to softly emphasize eyes. Pick a soft, natural cheek color that doesn’t compete with your lipstick.

High-Brow Beauty

Fuller brows ruled the runways this season. How to achieve this look at home?

• When filling in brows, most women make the mistake of matching the shade to their brow color. You should actually choose a hue that’s two tones lighter than your brows, which will give depth without overdoing it.

• If your brows are too short and you need to extend them, a pencil looks more defined than powder. Match brow color when you’re extending.

• Avoid pencils that are too greasy. For staying power, the formula should be drier than your eyeliner pencils.

Über Dark Eyes

Think last year’s eyes were smoky? This season, they’re positively sooty. The key, notes Debra, is to avoid overblending—it’s OK to get a little messy.

• Heavily line all the way around eyes with a dark pencil. Don’t worry about being neat.

• Smudge the liner with your fi nger or a sponge-tipped applicator.

• Using a shadow that matches your liner, apply from your upper lash line to your crease. Blend the edges.

• At your lower lash line, blend shadow using a downward motion, which will give it a smoky effect. The lower you extend the color, the more dramatic your look will be. You’ve taken it too far if you hit your cheek! The color should look more intense at your lash line, and fade to nothing as it smokes out.

• Finish with plenty of mascara.
