Prelude - Beauty
Forget cloying pastels and the same old springtime send-ups. This season’s runways showcased an array of gorgeous—yet incredibly wearable—beauty looks. Here, Pop Beauty’s creator Sara Strand (www..popbeauty.co.uk) shows how to incorporate the hottest trends into your bag of makeup tricks.

Angel face
Designers like Missoni opted for an ethereal, soft-focus glow on models’ faces. For a down-to-earth take on this heavenly gleam, “Add either cream or a soft sparkling powder onto cheek and brow bones,” Strand advises. “This will also ‘lift’ your face and add some volume to your cheekbones.” Keep the rest of your makeup soft, with neutral shades and low-key lips. For your face, try Smashbox Lux Smashing Overlay or Fresh Satin Luster Face Palette (both at www.sephora.com). To imbue lids with a subtle sheen, apply Stila Floating Eye Shadow (www.stilacosmetics.com).
Not-so-heavy metal
Who knew metallics could be so soft and pretty? The heavy metal eyes at Badgley Mischka and Temperley London may have been a bit more high-beam than you’ll want to wear to the office, but you can easily adjust the wattage for day by going sheerer. Some good ones: Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Uzi, which gives a sparkly silver finish (www.sephora.com) and Lancôme Sensational Effects Eye Shadow Smooth Hold in Pose, a soft gold (www.lancome-usa.com). To step up the gleam, pair with a liner like the adorable Liquid Sugar metallic eyeliner set from Sugar Cosmetics (www.sephora.com). Says Strand: “I love this look teamed with layers and layers of black mascara. For best results, put one layer on, let it dry and then apply another one. This will make your lashes appear thick and flirty and will add a contrast to that glow on the lid.” Pop Beauty Lash & Line features a dual-ended wand with lengthening mascara on one side and a metallic liquid liner on the other (www.sephora.com).
Bold lips
At Prada, Sonia Rykiel and others, bold lips were the order of the day. Be forewarned—especially if you’re more of a gloss girl—dramatic lip color is not for the faint of heart. But done right, there’s nothing sexier or more glamorous. Keep the rest of your makeup simple, with just a swipe of mascara and a natural-looking blush and foundation or concealer only where needed. If full-on opaque color feels too daring, blot until you’re left with a sheer stain and slick on clear gloss. Two great brights: Fylo Lip Color in Con Amore, a brilliant red that can be bought separately or as part of a compact (www.fylocosmetics.com) and Dior Addict Lipstick in Optic Fuchsia (www.christiandior.com).
